Manchester's Nightingale hospital will not be put on standby like its sister facility in London. The Government confirmed today that the capital's flagship field hospital, built at London's ExCel centre in response to the coronavirus outbreak, will not be accepting new admissions in the coming days due to low demand.
Similar action will not be taken at Manchester's NHS Nightingale North West despite low patient numbers. It's understood that only a handful of people are being treated at any one time at the Manchester Central facility.
Bosses at NHS England say this does not have any bearing on it being put on standby because the Manchester Nightingale was set up on a different clinical model to the one in London.
