TOP ITV television stars filming for The Games were at London’s Aquatics Centre just hours before a chlorine gas leak put 29 people in hospital.
Insiders said the celebrities, who are all part of the new flagship show, The Games, had been offered check-ups by medics. Former Strictly Come Dancing star Kevin Clifton, 39, posted a photograph from inside the swimming pool yesterday, unaware of the chaos that was unfolding there at the time.
Police, firefighters and 22 ambulances were called to the scene at the Olympic Park in Stratford yesterday. The London Ambulance service confirmed 29 people were taken to hospital and a further 48 treated at the scene for breathing difficulties – while 200 people from the area had been evacuated.
Those working on The Games, which also features celebrities including model Christine McGuinness, pop star Max George and Coronation Street actor Colson Smith, said they were breathing a sigh of relief that no one had been affected.
