Officers from Lancashire Police had called in a helicopter yesterday afternoon (Friday) to help them follow a silver Toyota Auris which was chased from Belmont through to Horwich before it was finally stopped.

The vehicle, which police believe was recently stolen from Bolton, was brought to a halt using a 'stinger' - a spiked strip of metal which deflates tyres when cars drive over it.

After stopping the car on Moss Bank Way, near the junction with Halliwell Road in Smithills, the driver and two passengers tried to flee.
