The Hollywood veteran Hal Holbrook has reportedly passed away at the age of 95. The Emmy award winner was best known for playing American novelist Mark Twain in the solo show Mark Twain Tonight, which he first began performing in 1954.
Not only did he perform in the show, but he also wrote and directed the play as well. Reports via the New York Times confirmed that Holbrook died on 23 January at his home in Beverly Hills, California.
His death was confirmed late on Monday by his assistant, Joyce Cohen. The veteran had previously won a Tony Award for Best Actor for his work in 1966 and later returned to Broadway to reprise his role in 1977 and 2005.
