A huge and rapid research effort has been launched in the response to the coronavirus outbreak. While many of us were caught off-guard by COVID-19, UK researchers were preparing studies into the virus as far back as January.
Scientists with colleagues in China and Italy realised what was coming and mobilised a number of 'sleeping' public health studies.
