The Chase’s Anne Hegerty has defended This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield over "queue jumping" claims, following controversy surrounding the pair attending the late Queen’s lying-in-state in Westminster Hall.

The morning TV hosts caused controversy as they appeared to jump the queue to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II, while members of the public had to queue for at least 14 hours.

Now professional quizzer Anne, who appears on the popular ITV gameshow The Chase, has stepped in to defend Holly and Phillip.Taking to Twitter to defend the duo, Anne wrote: “My understanding is that Holly and Phil weren't in a VIP line, they were in a press line and about to do a piece to camera.” Anne went on to share a link to an article about Holly and Phil, where she slammed the queue jumping claims and said: "You're all being extremely rude." Some Twitter users began arguing with Anne, pointing out that David Beckham reportedly turned down a queue jump hall pass, instead choosing to wait in line with the general public.

Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid was also seen queuing, alongside her mother. Continuing to defend Holly and Phil, Anne responded to these arguments, writing: “Because they were not there to work?” ITV and This Morning have also released a statement defending the pair from the queue-jumping allegations.
