Police bosses have defended the controversial handling of the Sarah Everard vigil in London last night.They said officers were "placed in a position where enforcement was necessary" after questions were raised about their 'heavy handed' approach.The statement comes after footage and pictures emerged of Met Police officers grabbing several women attending the event on Clapham Common on Saturday evening, before leading them away in handcuffs.A crowd had gathered to pay their respects to 33-year-old marketing executive, Sarah, who disappeared on March 3 after leaving her friend’s house in the Clapham area of London to walk home alone.As police surrounded a bandstand where flowers were being laid in tribute, scuffles reportedly broke out with.
