A rare Kew Gardens 50p coin has sold for £171 on eBay after a bidding war. The highly sought-after piece attracted 37 bids following an auction that spanned over five days, before eventually selling for £170.99 plus a £3.23 delivery cost.The Mirror reports the Kew Gardens 50p tends to top lists of the most valuable 50 pence pieces as there are only 210,000 still in circulation.

This means that coin collectors are willing to pay substantially more than its face value to get their hands on one.The coin was released in 2009 to mark 250 years since the famous gardens opened in 1759.Its design features the famous Chinese Pagoda in the gardens being intertwined by a leafy climber.Change checking website Coin Hunter says the mid-point price for a
