Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.
He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.
The Queen led tribute to her great-grandson Prince George on his ninth birthday on Friday 22 July.The 96 year old monarch’s tribute to the young Royal was posted on Friday on the official Royal Family Instagram page, with the caption: “Happy 9th Birthday Prince George!” along with a cake emoji.The words accompanied a photo of the Queen with Prince George, who fondly calls the monarch ‘Gan Gan’, as the pair sat on a balcony together at Buckingham Palace at the end of the Platinum Pageant on The Mall last month.
Prince George’s grandfather, Prince Charles, 73, and the Duchess of Cornwall, 75, joined the Queen in sending their birthday praise.
The couple wrote on their joint Instagram: “Happy 9th Birthday to Prince George”, adding a cupcake emoji.The Royal Family tributes come after a new photo of George was unveiled in celebration of him turning nine.The photo was taken by the birthday boy’s mum Kate Middleton, 40, and shows him beaming on their family holiday at a UK beach earlier this month.The Cambridges had ventured on the seaside trip after school had broken up for George and his siblings, Princess Charlotte, seven, and four year old Prince Louis.
It’s become tradition for the Duchess of Cambridge to take pictures of her eldest son, along with her two other children, every year, and the keen amateur photographer regularly releases her snaps to the public for various occasions.
