The plot of land, currently a surface car park, on Store Street was first bought by developer Ballymore in 2003. Planning permission for a 60-storey residential tower with hotel and leisure facilities was granted in 2005 and building work began.

But the tower - which would have been the tallest residential building in Europe at one time - was stalled by the recession in 2008.
