Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has introduced a change this month that will have an impact on at least 200,000 self-employed people across Scotland and the rest of the UK currently claiming Universal Credit.
There are more than four million self-employed people in the UK, with 476,000 relying on financial support from the DWP to top up their income while the UK slowly recovers from the coronavirus pandemic.Universal Credit payments for the self-employed are based on what is called the Minimum Income Floor, a policy that was suspended during the global health crisis, however, the DWP reinstated these rules on Sunday, August 1.
