New mayor elected by video conference for the first time in Stockport's history

Stockport council has elected a new mayor via video conference for the first time in its 46 year history. Rather than the usual grand town hall affair, Coun Dean Fitzpatrick was sworn in as the borough’s first citizen via a remote meeting due to cornonavirus restrictions which remain in place.

Fellow councillors, who joined the annual council meeting via Microsoft Teams, saw the former St Ann’s RC High School pupil receive the mayoral robe and chains.
