'Mini-tornado' phenomenon makes it rain hay over Scots town

Us Scots have learned to live with unpredictable weather — but raining hay is surely the final straw.That's exactly what baffled residents were faced with last Thursday after a bizarre 'mini-tornado' hit Ayrshire.Huge clumps of hay were reported falling from the sky in the hamlet of Lawthorn, on the outskirts of Irvine.The strange phenomenon left homes, cars and gardens covered in a thick layer of dried grass.The surreal sight was filmed by resident Dionne Strachan, 44, of Strathmore Park, who likened it to a scene from the Wizard of Oz.Dionne, who uploaded her clip to TikTok, backed by the Wicked Witch Theme music said: "It's quite a picturesque area, not far from the countryside and farmland so it's not unusual to have tractors out cutting grass."But I've lived here since 1995 and I've never seen anything like it.

I was just looking up at the sky bewildered."The hay was about 100 yards high and the way is was rotating in the air so slowly was hypnotic.
