Manchester bar Mahiki to appeal against its licence being taken away

A Manchester bar forced to close for operating as a nightclub during the coronavirus lockdown will appeal against its licence being taken away by the council.Mahiki had its licence revoked in September after staff and management were accused of having ‘complete disregard’ for the government rules earlier in the year.Licensing officials found customers drinking while standing up, ordering drinks from the bar and dancing to loud music which could be heard from outside the Central Street premises.This happened days after lockdown rules were relaxed in July to allow for bars to reopen but not nightclubs, which remain closed, due to the high risk of Covid-19 transmission.A prohibition notice was served days later banning the venue from operating.
