Liverpool can turn the Premier League title race into another nip-and-tuck thriller if they win at Arsenal tonight. But the Blues, despite dropping two points at Crystal Palace on Monday night can take heart from their record at closing out a domestic season under Pep Guardiola.
Since Guardiola arrived at the Etihad Stadium in 2016 the Merseysiders have undoubtedly been the Blues’ biggest rivals for honours - Chelsea won the first league title after his arrival but since then Jurgen Klopp’s side are the only team to have interrupted the unprecedented flow of Premier League trophies to the Blue side of Manchester.
That came to a head in 2018-19 when City overhauled Liverpool in the final stretch of the season and then powered over the line with 14 straight wins, but still needed to secure all three points at Brighton on the final day to ensure they would be champions.
That breathless finish was one of the most exciting two-horse finishes in league history, both sides relentless as they surged towards the finishing line.
