'Lightyear' Banned in Several Countries Due to Same-Sex Kiss (Report)

Lightyear is facing some backlash. According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, the Toy Story spinoff will not be allowed to play in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates because of a same-sex kiss featured in the film. Click inside to read more… The scene is featured during a montage of Space Ranger Alisha Hawthorne (voiced by Uzo Aduba), where she’s seen starting a family with her wife.

The pair share a kiss and later become pregnant, welcoming a son together. On Monday (June 13), the UAE’s Media Regulatory Office tweeted that Lightyear is “not licensed for public screening in all cinemas in the UAE, due to its violation of the country’s media content standards.” In March, it was reported that the scene had been restored to the movie after previously being taken out.

The decision came after the backlash surrounding Disney CEO Bob Chapek‘s initial response to Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
