Leon Balogun admits he was surprised to get the nod to start ahead of Connor Goldson at Hampden.But the Rangers stopper was glad he got his chance to put a few "horrible weeks" in the past and set up a grandstand finish to the season.
Philippe Clement made the gutsy call to drop usual first-choice Goldson for Balogun but the fresh partnership of the Nigerian and John Souttar helped them down Hearts and set up a May 25 showdown with Celtic.Clement said he simply rested Goldson after a busy week and a quick turnaround in games, facing Ross County and then Dundee in the week before the semi-final with the Jambos.
Balogun made his return after a spell out and asked if it was a "surprise" to get the start, he said: "Yes, because of the quick turnaround of the games.
But then from yesterday's session I knew, and it was just about preparing well and having a good start to the game." Balogun, in his second spell at the Ibrox club, then went on: "At this club, it felt like we had a few horrible weeks and it's been two games only, obviously very important games, but within a week.
