And now the Scotland international is closing in Gorgie amid interest from multiple Scottish suitors. It's a major boost for Neilson as he adds to his squad ahead of a manic start to the season that includes eight guaranteed fixtures in either the Europa League or Europa Conference League.
Shankland boasts an impressive goal record of over a goal every other game during his time with Ayr and United.
