On Sunday night, the actor, singer, and my favorite American Idol alum officially achieved status, adding a Tony Award to her long list of accomplishments. (In case you forgot, an EGOT has at least one of each of the most prestigious awards in show biz: an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award.)Hudson picked up the big “T” at the at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 12, when A Strange Loop, the Broadway show Hudson serves as a producer on, won the award for best musical.
The actor, 40, joins a select group of performers to have achieved EGOT status, including Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn, and John Legend.
Hudson began collecting her trophies in 2007, when she picked up a best supporting actress Oscar for her role in Dream Girls, followed by her first Grammy in 2009 for her self-titled debut album.
The singer picked up a Daytime Emmy Award last year for her role as an executive producer on Baba Yaga, which one the award for best interactive media.
