Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

The creator of Quiz says he has ‘doubts’ over whether Major Charles Ingram really did cheat on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

James Graham has revisited television's biggest scam for the ITV drama, which launched on Monday night, and follows a contestant who cheated his way to winning the show’s £1million jackpot.

If you weren’t around to see the episode when it aired in 2001, you have likely seen the YouTube videos that show Ingram in the hot seat apparently reacting to the coughs by audience member Tecwen Whittock.

Following a trial at Southwark Crown Court, Ingram, his wife and Whittock were convicted by a majority verdict of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception.
