direct to your inbox A homemade taser sparked a bomb scare which saw dozens of residents in Tameside evacuated.

The bomb squad were called after emergency services were alerted to the suspicious item found in a rucksack on St Anne's Road in Denton on Monday evening.

The town's MP said initial reports described it as a "pipe bomb."Police, paramedics and fire crews all attended after the alarm was raised around 4:45pm and a 200 metre cordon was put in place around it.

Residents in around 80 nearby homes, on the streets surrounding Jet Amber Fields near the border with Hyde, were also evacuated.Following an assessment by the bomb disposal unit it was found not to be viable device.
