Hyde Road will be closed for some time yet after flash food as engineers struggle to fix burst water main

direct to your inboxThe re-opening of one of Manchester's main roads following severe flood damage has been delayed.Hyde Road in Gorton became a raging torrent of water after a water main, which was being worked on by United Utilities at the time, suddenly burst at 5am on Friday.

Water, carrying large balls of clay ripped from earth around the damaged main, gushed out along Hyde Road and down the residential Far Lane where five homes were deluged.Engineers have been working to repair the burst pipe ever since and they had planned to re-open Hyde Road tomorrow (Wednesday).But the repair has proved to be more difficult than anticipated and the closure of the A57 Hyde Road, between Chapman Street and Reddish Lane, could last a few more.
