A thug who snatched a woman's handbag and dragged her along to the floor during a 'cowardly' robbery has been locked up. Karl Wilson, 46, attacked the woman in broad daylight in Altrincham town centre after she had been out shopping.

In another incident, Wilson stole a bundle of cash from the till of a newsagents in Salford, only to be chased and caught by the shopkeeper and a member of the public - who has now been recognised by a judge for his actions.

Manchester Crown Court heard the woman, thought to be aged about 60, was out shopping and was walking to Asda on George Richards Way, where she was going to be picked up by her family.
