The band first led in June 1994. Green Day rewrites the record for the longest span of No. 1s in the three-decade history of Billboard's Alternative Songs airplay chart, as "Oh Yeah!" rises 2-1 on the April 18-dated tally.
The song, Green Day's 12th No. 1, expands the trio's run of leaders to 25 years, 10 months and one week, dating to its first week on top with the prophetically titled "Longview," its first entry on the chart, in June 1994.
Green Day bests Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose span of Alternative Songs No. 1s covers 24 years, nine months and two weeks, from October 1991 through August 2016.
Beck ranks third, as he's stretched his leaders over 23 years, 11 months and two weeks, from February 1994 through January 2018.
