Gaiety Theatre boss admits social distancing will place Christmas pantomime in "serious doubt"

Theatre bosses admit this year’s Gaiety panto is now in “serious doubt”.The production of Sleeping Beauty is among those threatened by the ongoing coronavirus crisis.Stage chiefs had hoped to re-open on September 1 for an autumn programme.But they confess hopes of that are “dwindling fast” in light of safety measures applied to combat the virus.“We cannot do socially distanced theatre,” said Gaiety CEO, Jeremy Wyatt, this week.“We continue to make plans for a panto but are realistic at the same time.“The production is now in serious doubt and that is a huge shame.

The show is cast and is set to be a huge success.“But shows live and breathe on audiences and, without those, it simply would not be viable to go ahead.”The UK theatre industry.
