However, Mpenza, who played for the Blues under Sven-Goran Eriksson, believes that signing the multiple Ballon D'Or winner would not fix their defensive issues while also creating too much competition in attack.
While he does predict that Messi will reunite with the manager that propelled him to global fame, the 42-year-old does not expect that to happen at.
