manchestereveningnews.co.ukan off-duty officer was attacked by a gang of youths as he tried to prevent an assault near his home. He was left with broken bones when he was set upon by up to 15 yobs in Westhoughton, Bolton on Saturday, June 13.
It started when a family member told the 46-year-old about an assault taking place nearby.He went outside to help and found a group of youths on Lower Leigh Road.When he identified himself as a police officer, the group violently attacked him.
A white BMW then arrived at the scene and a woman climbed out of the vehicle and started beating the PC with a tennis racket.As police officers arrived to assist their colleague, the offenders fled on foot.The police officer was taken to hospital where he received treatment for injuries to.
