Beloved bear and children’s storybook character Winnie the Pooh will be featured on his very own 50p coin, the Royal Mint has revealed today.The first official UK coin featuring Winnie the Pooh forms part of a wider collection of special 50p coins paying homage to characters from children’s books.Original watercolour illustrations by E.H.
Shepard will feature on the commemorative piece, which has been created in collaboration with Disney.Video taken at the Mint’s design lab shows the meticulous design process the coins have gone through, with the first coin design showing Winnie the Pooh at his happiest; with a jar of his favourite honey.Daniel Thorne, product designer at The Royal Mint, said: “Working with original illustrations from E.H..
