Family desperate for answers release photo of piece of metal that killed dad in freak tragedy

Pictures of a piece of metal believed to have struck and killed a dad during a storm have been published by police. Stephen Matthews, 68, was struck by a piece of metal that when through the windscreen of a van during Storm Eunice on Friday, February 18.

Paramedics discovered Mr Matthews at the scene just after 2.10pm and found he received the fatal blow in the van he was a passenger in.

He tragically died a short time later. Now, Merseyside's roads policing officers have issued a photograph of the piece of metal believed to be responsible for the incident - with the permission of Mr Matthew's family, the Liverpool Echo reports. Sergeant Steve Smith, from Merseyside Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Following the very sad death of Mr Matthews we have carried out a number of lines of enquiry into what occurred in the lead up to his death. "On that day the country was hit by strong winds as part of Storm Eunice.
