Boris Johnson is facing mounting pressure to order a widespread lockdown after thousands of people ignored calls for social distancing to slow the coronavirus pandemic.
The Prime Minister said the government will now think 'very actively in the next 24 hours' about 'restricting movement altogether' due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
There was anger among MPs at scenes over the weekend of crowds flocking to parks, markets, beaches and beauty spots. In Rochdale the popular beauty spot Hollingworth lake was closed on Sunday folllowing an 'extraordinarily large' number of visitors and in Wigan, visitor numbers were restricted to what the council described as 'key parks' including Haigh Hall and Pennington Flash.
