Dedicated volunteer honoured for 35 years at Accord Hospice

A volunteer who has devoted 35 years to Accord Hospice has been thanked by being given a prestigious award.Pat Strachan has been given the Order of Mercy Award from the League of Mercy Foundation, awarded in honour of her dedicated and tireless commitment to volunteering at Accord.With the much-loved Paisley hospice celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Pat was an early adopter of the movement and has been an active fundraiser, supporter and volunteer in various forms over her 35 years.As one of the leaders at the inception of the Paisley Friends of Accord group, Pat led and co-ordinated many fundraising events and initiatives and has secured considerable amounts of financial support for the Hospice over the years.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.David McFadden, Accord’s fundraising and communications manager, said: “The support from Pat is so appreciated but that’s not all she’s achieved.“Pat is also well known in the Hospice building as a volunteer receptionist and volunteer gardener.“Her welcome smile and calm, kind demeanour has always put relatives and visitors at ease.“Pat’s time committed to Accord over the years runs to thousands of hours and we are grateful and have always thought she deserved a medal.“We are delighted that the League of Mercy agreed with us.”Pat received her medal at a small celebratory tea with her husband Bill as well as a few close volunteers and staff.David added: “Bill and Pat are married 65 years this year and everyone at Accord would like to congratulate them on that milestone.”The League of Mercy Foundation was established as a charity on 30 March 1999, exactly 100 years after the founding of the original League.Its role is
