Car dealership Lookers is set to axe 1,500 jobs and close 12 more showrooms. The Altrincham-based group - founded in Manchester city centre in 1908 - said the move would cut costs by up to £50 million a year.
The dealership cited the coronavirus pandemic crisis and a tough car market. Car showrooms have only just reopened for customers as lockdown restrictions were eased on Monday.
In November, Lookers said it would be closing 15 dealerships, with the 12 more announced today coming on top of that. Lookers said it was launching redundancy consultations across all areas of its group, which are expected to see around 1,500 jobs go among its 8,100-strong workforce.
