A Bolton man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a knife attack in broad daylight. Police were called to Snowdon Avenue in Blackburn at 5.15am this morning to reports a man had been hit by a van and then seriously assaulted.

It is believed the driver hit the 34-year-old with a Vauxhall Movano and then attacked him with a knife. The victim sustained what are described as life-changing injuries and was rushed to Royal Preston Hospital where he is receiving surgery to his leg.

Police say he is currently in a “serious but stable condition”. The van driver fled the scene but the vehicle was later located on the M61 and was stopped near Horwich.
