Armed police descend on street in east Manchester after 'reports of man with an axe'

It happened on Ashton Old Road in Openshaw shortly before 2pm on Sunday. A picture from the scene showed a number of officers, including several armed officers with their weapons drawn, entering a property.

Today Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed they were responding to reports of a man armed with an axe. "At about 1.55pm on May 2, Police responded to reports of a disturbance on Ashton Old Road in Manchester involving a man with an axe," a force spokesman said. "A man was arrested at the location.".
