Alec Baldwin reaches settlement with family of woman killed on his film set

Alec Baldwin and the production company of ill-fated movie Rust have reached a settlement with the estate of killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Halyna was tragically killed on the set of the movie in October 2021 after a prop gun Baldwin was holding was discharged.The filming of the film is set to continue now that the settlement has been reached.

Lawyers representing Halyna’s husband Matthew and their son Andros sued the Hollywood star and film’s producers for wrongful death in February.

Another person, director Joel Souza was also wounded in the shooting on the Bonanza Creek Ranch set near Santa Fe. Father of eight, Alec, 64, released a statement via Instagram which read: “We are pleased to announce today the settlement of the civil case filed on behalf of the family of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. “Throughout this difficult process, everyone has maintained the specific desire to do what is best for Halyna’s son. “We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation.” Rust Movie Productions, through its lawyer Melina Spadone, said: “We are pleased the parties came together to resolve this matter, which, subject to court approval, marks an important step forward in celebrating Halyna’s life and honouring her work.” In a twist, the husband of the woman who was killed, Matthew Hutchins, will serve as executive producer when filming resumes in January 2023.
