Unflappable Roy Keane has revealed he was "excited" at the prospect of battling for his place against world-class signings like Juan Sebastian Veron at Man Utd.

The classy Argentinan was signed from Lazio in 2001 to add even more creative quality to United's already exceptional midfield.

The Old Trafford club spent a then club record £28.5m to secure his signature as the aimed to defend their status as Premier League champions.

But rather than fear for his position, Keane relished Veron's arrival."I always enjoyed that. That was probably my favourite part of being at a brilliant club," Keane told Sky Sports.
