Tributes pour in for 'gentleman' Kilmarnock shopkeeper following his death

Tributes have been paid to a Kilmarnock shopkeeper who has passed away. Barkat Ali Naseem – known to many in the town as Mr Naseem – died on Sunday, February 23 following a battle with an illness.The 74-year-old owned the convenience store on Hill Street for more than 35 years and was a popular figure with many in the community.This week, Mr Naseem’s son Salman has paid tribute to his dad who he described as “the best person I knew”.Speaking to the Kilmarnock Standard, Sal said: “My dad, Barkat Ali Naseem, was born in poverty 74 years ago.“Through sheer will he made a life for himself that was rich, not necessarily in material things, but in the positive impact he had on others.
