Police have made 13 arrests after a feisty football derby between Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers over the weekend. Chaotic scenes erupted in Wigan following the match on Saturday (April 2), which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Wanderers fans were kept inside the stadium while Latics supporters left the ground, before being escorted by officers to Wigan Wallgate railway station.
A huge police presence was reported outside the station as crowds gathered along Wallgate. Violence then reportedly flared up in the town centre. They include four people who have since been charged: A further four arrests were made several hours later, after 7.30pm: The behaviour has been condemned by Lee Broadbent, chair of GMP's branch of the Police Federation union.
