There are hundreds of modern slavery crimes across Greater Manchester - this is what police are doing about it

Its main aim will be to increase prosecutions of modern slavery across the region. Reports to Greater Manchester Police (GMP) more than doubled in a year during 2019/20.

There were 254 modern slavery crimes in 2018/19, rising to 390 the following year. Modern slavery includes the exploitation of vulnerable people for sexual exploitation, forced labour and domestic servitude.

The force’s new Modern Slavery investigation - embedded in the Modern Slavery Unit last month - is made up of six staff members and officers.
