Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.

The public must start assuming that the Queen will not attend events unless it has been confirmed on the day, insiders have claimed.

Over recent months, the 95 year old has been forced to pull out of various events and has even opened up about her “exhausting” battle with Covid-19.

And now, reports suggest that Her Majesty’s attendance at royal engagements will be a bonus, not a guarantee, under an alleged new strategy.

Speaking to The Mail on Sunday, a source said: “The assumption must now be that the Queen will not be present at events. “If Her Majesty does attend, it will be decided on the day and she will be accompanied by another member of the Royal Family.” Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter.
