Part of Kings Road, in Audenshaw, is privately owned by United Utilities and leased to Fairfield Golf and Social Club. It's a popular spot for walkers and cyclists in stunning surroundings, while it is also the route used by drivers to access homes along Corn Hill Lane.

But some residents are growing increasingly annoyed, claiming that the road now appears like the surface of the moon. They say that potholes line the uneven ground from the moment it becomes the privately-owned road, past the smooth tarmac that runs by the new Kings Grange housing estate
