charity worker has been released from prison in Albania – 13 years after being jailed for child sex abuse in a case which was claimed to be fabricated by police.

David Brown smiled and thanked supporters as he walked free from a high-security prison in Tirana on Friday. The 69-year-old, from Edinburgh, was jailed in 2008 but has always maintained his innocence.

His release comes years after two abuse victims admitted they had been forced to fabricate evidence against him and tell lies in court.

He was convicted on the basis of their testimony and sentenced to 20 years behind bars, reduced to 13 for good behaviour. The abuse was alleged to have happened at a home he ran for troubled children in the country.
