The act's album "Wide Open Spaces" spun off three Hot Country Songs leaders. On March 13, 1999, Dixie Chicks' "You Were Mine" jumped 4-1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.

The ballad was penned by group founders and sisters Martie McGuire and Emily Strayer. Lead vocalist Natalie Maines rounds out the trio.

The song was released as the fourth of five singles from the act's breakthrough 1998 LP Wide Open Spaces, which ruled the Top Country Albums chart for seven weeks.

It also generated the Hot Country Songs No. 1s "There's Your Trouble" (in August 1998) and the title track (that November). Dixie Chicks posted 14 Hot Country Songs top 10s, including six No.
