He then underwent officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He was commissioned as a cornet (second lieutenant) into the Blues and Royals, serving temporarily with his brother Prince William, and he completed his training as a troop leader. In 2007–08, he served for over ten weeks in Helmand, Afghanistan, but was pulled out after an Australian magazine revealed his presence there. He returned to Afghanistan for a 20-week deployment in 2012–13 with the Army Air Corps. He left the army in June 2015.

Prince Philip told aide ‘we were wrong’ about Meghan, says royal expert

Prince Philip was reportedly “spitting blood” after finding out Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s plans to leave the royal family, a royal author has claimed.The late Duke of Edinburgh allegedly also further told an aide “we were wrong about her all along” and was said to be furious over the fact the couple made the announcement before informing senior royals first.

According to author Christopher Anderson, the late Duke went straight to the Queen to express his “anger”. In the book Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan, the author claims that the aide revealed Philip had no knowledge of Instagram but was “furious, deeply hurt, spitting blood” when he learned of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s joint announcement on the app.

According to the aide, Philip shouted “this shows a complete lack of respect” as he told the Queen of his anger.The author also claims that both Philip and son Prince Charles once had a warm relationship with Meghan - but their views eventually changed.

Anderson suggests that the seniors royals now viewed Meghan as a twenty-first-century Wallis Simpson – the American socialite who married the former King Edward VIII after he abdicated in order to be with her more than 80 years ago.
