2022 SAG Awards Sunday night. That’s not good — because actors make up the biggest voting bloc at the upcoming Academy Awards. As Scooby Doo would say, “Ruh roh!”Netflix, the producer of director Jane Campion’s drama, started getting nervous when the favored Best Supporting Actor contender Kodi Smit-McPhee lost to the wonderful Troy Kotsur for “CODA” early in the evening. Moments later, Kirsten Dunst was brought to heel for Best Supporting Actress by Ariana DeBose for her ferocious turn as Anita in “West Side Story.” The final yell of “bad dog!” came when Benedict Cumberbatch surrendered Best Actor to Will Smith (“King Richard”), who will now surely go on to win the same award at the Oscars, after nabbing the SAG and the Golden Globe. “Power of the Dog” didn’t even manage a nomination for Best Ensemble. Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed the intensity of his method acting process during the shooting of his latest film, The Power Of The Dog, saying that the cast celebrated finally “meeting” him when filming wrapped.Directed by Jane Campion, the western drama film follows charismatic rancher Phil Burbank (Cumberbatch), who torments his younger brother George (Jesse Plemons) when he brings home his new wife Rose Gordon (Kirsten Dunst).Speaking an interview with Nihal Arthanayake on BBC Radio 5 Live, the actor said he received a surprise at the end of filming the last scene, by which point he’d already “pissed off” Plemons with his method acting.“I embodied him for a more intense and locked in period of time than any other character I’ve played to date and that took a while to unravel,” he told Arthanayake.“The last scene in the picture was my scene of shooting, and at the end of it… I heard this clinking of glasses, the lights came up and Jeff Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah’ was playing.“I looked up and I was surrounded by the crew with champagne and candles and they were raising a glass to say goodbye to him and hello to me because they hadn’t met me!
