Nickelodeon went off air today (June 2) for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, which was the same amount of time that a police officer had his knee on top of George Floyd‘s neck, that ultimately led to his tragic murder.
The network halted their regular programming to air the blacked out commercial, with George‘s words “I Can’t Breathe” over it.
After the moment, Nickelodeon posted a message on top of their iconic orange color, and it read “You have the right to be seen, heard, and respected as a citizen of the world.
You have the right to a world that is peaceful. You have the right to be treated with equality, regardless of the color of your skin.
