Meghan Markle claimed in her bombshell Oprah interview that she "grew up as an only child". She also said: "I wished I had siblings, I would have loved to have had siblings." Now Meghan's half sister Samantha is suing the Duchess for $75,000 after calling these claims "humiliating".
But the Duchess of Sussex's lawyers argue that her account was not meant to be "objective fact" rather a subjective statement of her own feelings.
Meghan's lawyers are defending the case of defamation case which has been brought about by her half sister Samantha Markle. Meghan's lawyers say that her description of growing up as an only child cannot be false because it is a "textbook example of a subjective statement of how a person feels about their childhood." The Duchess' US legal team have filed to dismiss the case in legal papers submitted to a Florida court.
Samantha, on the other hand, claims that the bombshell interview subjected her to "humiliation, shame and hatred on a worldwide scale." She also says that Meghan told "false and malicious lies" about her "rags to royalty" story at the expense of her paternal family.
