Danny Murphy doesn't believe Carlo Ancelotti is the right man for Manchester United and that they missed the boat with Antonio Conte.
The veteran Italian tactician has recently been linked with the permanent role at Old Trafford, despite being employed by Real Madrid, as United's search for a manager continues.
During their struggles under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Conte was touted as a possible replacement for the Norwegian at United before taking the reins at Tottenham, a decision Murphy feels they will rue. READ MORE: Carlo Ancelotti might be the perfect man to handle Manchester United's pampered stars He told talkSPORT: "I've got the utmost respect for him [Ancelotti], he's meant to be a terrific fella but he's not stayed in any jobs longer than two years other than AC Milan, the club he loved - obviously. "That was many years ago, Chelsea a couple of seasons, Paris Saint-Germain a couple, [Bayern] Munich a year, Everton and now at Madrid.
I think United have to look at something more stable, long-term, I know that's the opposite of how Chelsea get success but Manchester United [are a] different model. "I also think his managerial style is one where he's gone into many clubs that have got success, superstars, players top of their game and keeping that going.
