Manchester United fans have joked that Jadon Sancho's hat-trick against Paderborn at the weekend was the first scored by a United player since Robin van Persie's trio of strikes in April 2013.
United supporters have been waiting more than seven years to see one of their players net three times in the league, with the Dutchman's goals against Aston Villa during Sir Alex Ferguson's reign the last time the feat was achieved.
The Reds scored 13 hat-tricks during Ferguson's last six-and-a-half years at the helm but no United player has been able to do so since his departure.
To put the dismal record into perspective, Manchester City have scored 15 in that time, with Sergio Aguero grabbing 11 of them.
