Counting is well under way at a bustling Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley, with results filtering in from the Renfrewshire Council election.The first candidates to learn their fate were in Renfrew South and Gallowhill, where SNP duo Cathy McEwan and Jim Paterson were re-elected, as was Labour candidate Edward Grady.Paterson, standing in his third election, said: "It's always good when you're re-elected because you feel that it's an endorsement of your previous five years of what you've been doing."McEwan, an environment convener in the last council term, said it felt "good" to be given the opportunity to carry on the work carried out.She added: "It also feels great that Team Up to Clean Up - I can still be there."I would be there whether I was elected or not because it's a fantastic thing, so I'm delighted to be given the opportunity and I need to thank the voters for that."Meanwhile Grady spoke of his desire to "make things better" for people in Renfrewshire.He said: "I hope we can make a difference on what people have been saying: on the roads, the grass, the dog mess, the antisocial behaviour."These are the things I've been hearing about on the doorstep.
